Post Graduate Medical Education Core Courses 2014-2015

The Faculty of Medicine, Postgraduate Medical Education office, organizes a series of seminars (lectures and workshops) for residents and clinical fellows on selected topics such as the CanMEDS roles (medical expert, communicator, collaborator, manager, health care advocate, scholar, and professional) and other related medical topics.  These courses are faculty-wide educational initiatives for residents and fellows. Residents who complete the session will receive a McGill University, Post Graduate Medical Education certificate.

        Fall 2014

  • Patient Safety  (1/2 day session: for all PGY levels and specialities)                                                      

Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2014
Time: 1pm - 5pm
Location: Simulation Centre
Course Description:
During this half-day, residents will explore health advocacy roles for patients and the community, and will have the opportunity to practice disclosure of adverse events in challenging scenarios, thus, strengthening their understanding and appreciation for patient safety during residency training and beyond.

  • Conflict Resolution Workshop  (1/2 day session: for all PGY levels and specialities)                                                      

Date: Thursday, October 30, 2014
Time: 1pm - 5pm
Location: Simulation Centre
Course Description:
During this half-day, the resident will learn different approaches to addressing and resolving conflicts. During the workshop portion, residents will have the opportunity to apply these principles to their own context.

  •  Practice Management Curriculum     (full-day: for senior residents - R2 and up)

Course Description:
 This full-day session provides an introduction to practice management issues.

  • Resident Well-Being Day

    Date:  Tuesday, February 10, 2015

    Time: 1pm - 5pm
    Location: McIntyre building: Room: 208/209
    Course Description: This session provides an overview of well-being: physical, emotional, intellectual, environmental/occupational, social, and spiritual.

    CMPA Seminar  (1/2 day session: for all PGY levels and specialties)

    Course Description: The Canadian Medical Protective Association provides a three-hour case-based interactive session on legal aspects of medical practice.

        Spring 2015

  • Professionalism Seminar (1/2 day session: for all PGY levels and specialties)

    Date: Thursday, April 2nd, 2015
    Time: 1:00pm - 5:00pm
    Location: Simulation Centre
    Course Description: This session will enable residents to identify the attributes of professionalism; social contract between physician/society and describe how the McGill Code of Conduct fits into concepts of professionalism. The session will consist of lectures and scenarios.

  • Improving Residents' Teaching Skills
