Exam Information
There are only two pathways
to obtain a license or permit to practice medicine in the Province of
Quebec: one is in a two year Family Medicine training program and
the other is by completing an accredited specialty program.
A new medical school
graduate who enters the McGill Family Medicine residency, registers as a
Resident-1 and takes two years of training, after which he/she, if in
good standing, may sit the examinations of the Collège des médecins du
Québec (CMQ) which may be combined with that of the College of Family
Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Upon successful completion of the
examinations, a license to practice in the Province of Quebec can be
issued by the CMQ and the resident will be certified by the CFPC, if
applicable.
New medical school graduates
(Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, graduates of
Canadian or U.S. medical schools) who enter any of the McGill
specialty programs will also be registered as Resident-1's. Upon
successful completion of these specialty training programs, candidates
may sit the examinations of the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) in
order to obtain a license to practice in the Province of Quebec and the
specialty examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Canada (RCPSC). Some of the specialty examinations are jointly
administered by the CMQ and the RCPSC, and others have been harmonized
which means they are entirely equivalent.
One of the Quebec licensure
exams required is the Aldo Exam, which deals with the legal,
administrative and ethical aspects of the practice of medicine in
Quebec. Link for the

Workbook.
Trainees
are also required to pass a French exam.
