Pediatric Emergency Medicine
The Montreal Children's Hospital is offering
a 2-3 year fellowship program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. The
fellowship’s objective is to train individuals a) to become proficient
in clinical pediatric emergency care and b) to
become leaders in teaching, research and administration.
The Emergency Department has an annual
census of 65,000 patients, two thirds in the Medical Emergency and the
rest in the Surgical Emergency. The fellowship includes training in both
areas as well as in core rotations in anesthesia, intensive care and
toxicology. Fellows will spend at least 2 months in a major trauma
centre and 2-4 months doing research. At least six months will be spent
in subspecialty areas relevant to PEM including Orthopedics, Plastic
Surgery, ENT, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Adolescent Medicine. A
candidate for this position must have completed a minimum of three years
of core training in general pediatrics or 4 years in Emergency Medicine.
