Emergency Medicine
The McGill Emergency
Medicine Program is Canada’s original and premier program! It is a
5-year program leading to certification from both the Royal College and
the College des Specialistes Professionel du
Québec. In addition, graduates are also eligible to write the ABEM
exams.
The main goal of the
McGill Emergency Medicine program is to develop leaders in Emergency
Medicine. The program provides the optimal combination of clinical
training, research (5 months), specialized areas (trauma, toxicology,
administration, clinical teaching) with ample time remaining to develop
a core area of expertise (4 months) and electives (6 months). Protected
teaching time occurs every Wednesday morning. An evidenced based
journal club occurs on the last week of every period.
The program and its
offices are based at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Clinical Emergency
rotations are done at the MUHC hospitals (Royal Victoria, Montreal
General and Montreal Children’s Hospitals) as well as the Jewish General
Hospital.
There are many
routes of entry into the program (CaRMS, sponsored Clinical
Fellows, return from practice). This allows for a diversified “critical
mass” necessary for learning.
