Show your McGill EBOH pride!

You may now place orders for custom McGill EBOH clothing by accessing the ordering page here. It is as simple as downloading the order form, e-mailing it in to the organizers, and sending in the appropriate payments via PayPal.

The deadline to place your order is Friday, February 27 at midnight (orders to arrive ~3-4 weeks later), and information on picking up the clothing will be distributed soon!

28 August 2014: EBOH Departmental Orientation

The Departmental Orientation will take place this Thursday, August 28 (9:30 AM - 12:00 PM). It will be held in Purvis Hall (1020 Pine Avenue West) in the main foyer. A lunch will follow from 12:00 - 2:30 PM.

Attendees will hear about the various services McGill and the EBOH department offer, from us (EBOSS), as well as having the opportunity to meet with their program-specific advisors.

Also, join us for the first EBOSS 5 à 7 of the year on Wednesday, September 3! This will take place at Thomson House from 5 - 7 PM and it is a great opportunity to see everyone you missed over the summer, meet the new students, and to consume free food and beverages!

10 April 2014: EBOSS Annual Job Seminar 2014

Bioethics - Social Studies of Medicine Building

EBOSS invites you to our Annual Job Seminar to be held next Thursday, April 10 (4:00 - 5:30 PM). This event will not be held at Purvis Hall, but will be in Room 101, 3647 Peel, Bioethics - Social Studies of Medicine Building (just down the hill from Purvis).

The speakers at the seminar are mostly alumni from our department who have moved on to different types of careers, and they will be sharing their journey and experiences with you. There will be a Q&A session after each speaker has introduced themselves and described their job hunting experiences and current careers.

23 April 2014: EBOH Student Research Day

We are now accepting abstract submissions for the 10th Annual EBOH Research Day.

Research Day is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Research Day is a wonderful opportunity to showcase EBOH student research and for students to garner more experience in the peer-review process and in presenting their work at professional conferences.

Abstract submissions must be received by 5pm, Friday, March 7. All abstracts will be peer reviewed by EBOH faculty. Including section headings, abstracts should not exceed 400 words. Accepted abstracts will be recommended for either an oral presentation or a poster. We will contact abstract authors with the results of reviewers recommendations during the last week of March.

1 February 2014: Skating Event

This Saturday February 1st we will be going skating at Parc La Fontaine and we follow it up with Poutine at La Banquise. We will probably wrap that up around 4PM and then head over for Poutine.

The 5 à 7, an ancient EBOSS tradition, is a great opportunity to let loose, chat about how the semester has been going, and to not think about Stata or R or winBUGS or SAS (unless that's your thing)... all while enjoying a few drinks and snacks on us.

Seminar, Nov 12: How to choose your supervisor

The seminar is geared towards both MSc and PhD students and will include 2 short presentations followed by a lengthier Q&A. Our speakers are:

Prof. Christina Wolfson - who will present the supervisor side of things: What do potential supervisors look for? How should students prepare? etc.

and

PhD Candidate Corinne Riddell - who will present the student side of things: What was Corinne's own experience with choosing a supervisor? How did she prepare? How did she devise a way to compare potential profs?

At the Spring Banquet on May 24, EBOSS presented its annual Teaching Awards, which recognize excellence in teaching.

Workshop: Introduction to SAS programming

Dates and times: April 29 and 30 from 9am-1pm

Topics covered will include The Basics (importing data, creating libraries and datasets, formatting variables), Data Subsetting and Manipulation, Merging datasets, and a Brief intro to macros.

Registration is open to students in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Statistics. A refundable registration fee of $20 is required; this fee will be returned to students upon attendance of the workshop. Research Day is a departmental conference where Master's and PhD students as well as junior research assistants of EBOH faculty members get to share their ongoing research through short oral presentations (tentative schedule attached). It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the great work being done in this department and award deserving students for their research achievements.

Student Research Day abstract submission deadlined EXTENDED!

The 9th Annual Student Research Day, where students present their research in a venue that is as similar as possible to scientific conferences, is coming up on Wednesday April 24, 2013. All students are encouraged to submit abstracts summarizing their research, either completed or still in progress, by Friday March 8, 2013 at 5:00PM. Accepted authors will present their work and have a chance to win prizes!
