McGill Health Network Office On January 30, 2004, Bill 25, “An act respecting local health and social service networks” which, by its interpretation, established 95 integrated health and social service organizations (CSSS) throughout Quebec, the goal of which, was to bring services closer to the population by facilitating the public’s access and care within the system, particularly those patients considered to be at risk. The new reform allowed for the creation of four University based integrated health networks with the aim of providing easier access for Quebec residents to tertiary level health care provided by University affiliated hospitals. (RUIS Map) To meet this challenge the RUIS McGill steering committee created a Network office, the role of which would be to facilitate a coordinated approach to the implementation and follow up of clinical network activities. As part of the McGill University Integrated Health Network (RUIS), the principle goal of the McGill Health Network Office is to liaise with the 4 McGill affiliated hospitals, the regional authorities and the newly created CSSS within the jurisdiction of the RUIS McGill mandate, to enable the successful establishment of links to the various services available, thereby insuring that Bill 25 is respected. By creating this avenue of service, we are able to direct requests for service to the appropriate areas and facilitate the creation of service agreements between the various establishments. While many aspects of the health delivery initiative require clarification, it is clear that the McGill hospitals are now faced with a vast array of new clinical responsibilities in addition to a challenging coordinating role, which will be pivotal to the success of these new networks. Welcome !
